Coastal Ear Nose and Throat in Neptune NJ is opening a brand new 1-room Ambulatory Surgery Center for their exclusive use and is seeking the following nurses with critical care experience:P.A.C.U.REGISTERED NURSE- PREOPERATIVE UNIT-RECOVERY Position:Post Anesthesia Care Registered Nurse - Preoperative Care Registered Nurse - Recovery Stage Two Registered NurseQualifications: The Post Anesthesia Care nurse must be a currently licensed professional nurse in the state of New Jersey. Minimum recent two years experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgical post anesthesia setting with demonstrated competence as a Registered Nurse. Certification for post anesthesia nursing preferred.Purpose and Scope: The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit is responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of post anesthesia nursing care of an assigned group of patients. He/she will also assume this clinical Registered Nurse role in the Recovery Stage Two unit and the Preoperative area as assigned.Responsible to: Director of NursingResponsibilities:Is responsible and accountable for own nursing practice.B.Patient Care-Clinical Practice:1.Meets standards of job performance and clinical competence for Post Anesthesia Care Registered Nurse.2.Meets standards of job performance and clinical competence for Registered Nurse for the Preoperative Holding Area and Recovery Stage Two Unit including but not limited to direct patient care and indirect patient care, medical record preparations and reviews for completeness.3.Is responsible and accountable for post anesthesia and preoperative ambulatory nursing process.

Foliows guidelines of ASPAN and ANA consisting of the six steps of assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcome identification, planning and evaluation of perioperative care with recognition of age related needs for adult, geriatric and pediatric patients. Practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, ANA Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, Department of Health regulations and other regulatory and accrediting agencies in addition to this organization†s policies and procedures.4.Establishes, implements, and monitors, in conjunction with other members of the patient care team, standards of patient care within framework of the standards of this Center. Assesses and responds to individual, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient.5.Directs Licensed Practical Nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel perioperative team towards safe, competent, compassionate, individualized and goal-directed patient care.6.Administers medications correctly within the restrictions and limitations defined by the New Jersey State Practice Act and the Center†s policies and procedures.7.Conducts narcotic counts in the specified manner with another Registered Nurse. Maintains inventory of narcotics and controlled drugs requisitioned by the Anesthesiologist for the Operating Room.

Oversees drug inventory responsibilities for the Center.8.Implements and insures that physician orders are performed including orders delegated to other health care professionals.9.Demonstrates understanding and interpretation of diagnostic measures such as lab tests, radiology exams and EKG10.Ensures that the Code carts are fully equipped, defrbriillators are in operational readiness and that daily checks are completed.11.Accurately monitors and documents in the Center†s logs ensurhig that those regulatory requirements are met.12.Executes the operative schedule in a safe and quality manner demonstrating flexibility with necessary changes and arrangements for added operations, cancellations, or deviations in the plan of care.13.Applies sound nursing principles to organize, plan, coordinate and control the flow of activities and utilization of resources. Demonstrates cognizance of Center policies, procedures, and job descriptions.14.Demonstrates analytical abilities necessary to identify a problem and to develop a sound plan of action for resolution.15.Actively participates in the Center†s quality performance improvement monitoring and assists with preparation of these presentations and reports.16.Works flexible hours assuming responsibility and accountability for providing patient care.17Maintains knowledge of asepsis, infection control and universal I standard precautions. Reduces chances of nosocomial infection by directing attention to infection preventing and control and environmental safety practices.18.Conducts patient postoperative follow up calls and completes all documentations within the defined timeframe. Performs preoperative assessments and reviews in a timely manner.19.Ensures a safe environment for all patients, families and staff.

Acts as the patient advocate.20.Changes gas cylinders as necessary to maintain medical gas system integrity. Ensures communication of need for replacement tanks or system problems. Monitors gas outlets for shutoff at end of each day.21.Seeks learning opportunities and demonstrates skill level and capabilities as a member of the perioperative staff at the center contrthuting to the center†s Measures of Success for quality outcomes.22.Promotes cooperation and minimizes disruption to the working environment.23.Prepares Center nursing and operative documentation for each patient.24.Assists the OR staff with instrumentation, supplies and equipment for cases on the next day OR schedule.25.Performs job responsibilities associated with the soiled and clean utility rooms for instrument and equipment cleaning and preparation for sterilization as needed and as competent.C.Materials Control I Financial Awareness:1.Demonstrates knowledge of the Center†s budget endeavoring to reduce waste and ensure cost containment.2.Monitors drug inventory and supplies procurement and equipment inventory ensuring that the surgical schedules can be accommodated. Checks for outdated medications and supplies removing them appropriately and facilitating replacement.Rotates stock.3.Maintains a professional and ethical relationship with vendor representatives.D.Computer Systems:1.Demonstrates knowledge and skill understanding and using the Center†s computer system for documentation, charging, list reports and inventory.

Participates in training classes as needed.2.Maintains confidentiality of all information and the medical record and assigned computer codes.E.Communication:1.Maintains open coliaborative dialogue with OR and the Director of Nursing.2.Effectively communicates and interacts with staff physicians, patients, families and the public.3.Regularly attends staff meetings, orientations, and in-services. Serves on assigned committees.4.Able to assist with teaching aseptic technique, safety program, infection prevention and control, and relevant nursing topics.5.Reports promptly and accurately ali significant events and problems to the Director of Nursing.F.Professionalism:1.Maintains current knowledge of ambulatory post anesthesia I perioperative nursing practice. Utilizes opportunities for professional growth by attending continuing education programs. Attends seminars and meetings relevant to PACU I Ambulatory Surgery as requested by the Center.2.Becomes involved with research, new equipment, procedures for the Center.3.Maintains and ensures dress code and decorum.

Prominently wears name identification badge at all times. Introduces self to patients and patient familymembers.4.Promotes good image of Center to patients, physicians, vendors and community.5.Demonstrates professional behavior by being technicaliy competent, skilled and responsive to the Center†s customers in a compassionate, efficient and effective manner.6.Maintains competencies identified by the Center including but not limited to mandatory education, equipment and skill competency review lists, BLS, ACLS, and PALS as required by patient population. Makes self knowledgeable as to the contents of the Center†s Policy and Procedure Manual.7.Maintains the confidentiality of patients, significant others and fellow employees.G.Miscellaneous:1. Actively communicates and supports the Organization†s Mission, Values, Ethics,Philosophy, Objectives, and Policies and Procedures.

Demonstrates an understanding ofhow the success of the surgery center is linked to the success or failure of the customerprocess.2.Maintains confidentiality, safety and security in all aspects ofjob role. Applies HIPAArequirements.3.Demonstrates intermediate to advanced technical knowledge and competency for all equipment, facilitates service as necessary.4.Demonstrates safe habits in the work place with a concern for the safety of patients,families, and staff.5.Maintains current knowledge of the Center†s Emergency Preparedness protocols and procedures. Applies OSHA standards.6.Prepares daily timesheet, completing at the end of each shift. Ensures that any hours deviating from the posted schedule are approved by the Director of Nursing prior to changes being made.7.Contributes to the effectiveness of the Center by remaining within the acceptable standard of Center attendance and tardiness policies.

Is present at workstation and prepared to work at the start of† the assigned shift. Does not extend breaks or takes unexplained absences from the work area.8.All other duties assigned by the Director of Nursing or Administrator.
