Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Education Pr! ogram with a Master's Degree in a related field; or graduation from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education programs prior to January 1998 is required. Candidate must have sufficient sensory capacity to observe the patient and patient monitors. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively in both academic and health care settings. Must show evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in teams and possess demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, and effectively function in the face of uncertainties inherent in clinical practice. Ancillary privileges granted by the University Hospital Medical Staff must be successfully obtained upon hire.
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) {by June 16, 2009} in the State of New Jersey & current certification as a Nurse Anesthetist by the Council on Certification/recertification of Nurse! Anesthetists of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetist! s. Successful completion/certification in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. A Nurse Anesthetist who has not obtained certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse shall cease to administer anesthesia on June 16, 2009. New graduates will be considered. All requirements must be met prior to employment with the University of Medicine and Dentistry.
As of June 16, 2009, new graduates may be employed after obtaining a work permit letter as an Applicant Advanced Practice Nurse from the New Jersey Board of Nursing under the condition that he/she successfully takes and passes the national Certification Examination on the first available date following his/her graduation. If the applicant fails the first examination, the applicant shall take the next examination for which he or she is eligible. If the applicant fails the second examination, the applicant shall surrender the work permit letter to the Board and shall not practice as an applicant Advanced Practice Nurse u! ntil he/she passes the examination. Results must be reported to the Chief CRNA as soon as they are available.
Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of the Nurse Anesthetist (Certified Registered) position is to administer anesthesia-related care in four general categories: (1) pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation; (2) anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence; (3) post-anesthesia care; and (4) peri-anesthetic and clinical support functions.
Please note that effective July 1, 2013, as a result of the New Jersey Medical and Health Sciences Restructuring Act, several units from the former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) are now part of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS). For the purposes of payroll and benefits administration, the above position is a legacy UMDNJ position at Rutgers, and is eligible for benefits associated with legacy UMDNJ positions.
