Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director’s Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department’s guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
Position Summary
This position is assigned to the Men’s Basketball Office in the Department of Athletics and functions as the Assistant to the Director of Operations and Director of Player and Team Development as well as the coaching staff. This position serves as an administrative coordinator in managing the operations for recruitment activities, including recruiting portfolios, and manages recruiting events.
Along with recruiting, this position will facilitate Name Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities and coordinate communication between NIL collectives and entities such as Tri-Cord and Pro Camps.
The landscape of college athletics has seen many changes, NIL creates many avenues of added responsibility: communication with coaching staff, student-athletes, family of student-athletes, compliance officers, agents, and administrators of NIL entities; additional NIL database management.
This position will also assist with community service projects for the student athletes. This position will function as liaison with the operational duties of student managers.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
This position must be knowledgeable of resources in the area of ACC and NCAA rules and regulations as they apply to a Division One basketball program. Attention to detail and effective communication (verbal and written) are essential. Leadership competencies include the ability to determine and ensure compliance with guidelines, laws, and regulations; data management, analysis, report writing and document preparation for presentation to coaching staff and administrators. The ability to handle confidential information is critical. The ability to work in a dynamic, highly visible program in a professional manner is required.
Keen listening skills and the ability to respond appropriately to others is important as this position has extensive contact with coaches, staff within the Athletics Department, other University department/agencies, high school coaches/personnel, University officials and the general public.
This position must be able to provide accurate and detailed information to all of the aforementioned responsibilities to ensure a smooth and professional operation.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in sports management, communication, and/or business administration or a related discipline is preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred subject knowledge includes familiarity with or working knowledge of athletic terminology and athletic specific information including familiarity with NCAA rules and regulation, and Name, Image, and Likeness.
Preferred organizational skills: Attention to detail, accurate data management, ability to work in dynamic environment; creative skills and abilities.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be able to lift/move 25 lbs. or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Must be able to manage a fast-paced, high volume environment. Attention to detail essential. Ability to travel.
